bio

A New York native who graduated from Syracuse University, Sorkin's reputation as a notable playwright grew due to the success of his play, “Hidden in the Picture.” When his 1989 Broadway play, “A Few Good Men,” was turned into the hit 1992 feature film, Hollywood took notice. Sorkin then wrote the screenplay for the thriller “Malice;” and that project was followed by his screenplay for the political romantic comedy, “The American President.” This was followed by work as writer and executive producer on the universally praised series “Sports Night.” His next series brought Sorkin his biggest success to date. Using dialogue left over from his screenplay for “The American President,” he created the hit series “The West Wing.” He announced his departure from “The West Wing” in May 2003. Sorkin returned to TV in 2006 with “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” which lasted one season. His next film, “Charlie Wilson’s War,” was a return to writing about politics and was directed by Mike Nichols and starred Tom Hanks, Julia Robert and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Next up is “The Social Network,” which tells the story of the social networking phenomena Facebook and is currently in production.
