Adrian Grenier describes why this Sundance experience was different than any other

Actor Adrian Grenier stopped by the MakingOf House to discuss the Sundance premiere of his documentary, “Teenage Paparazzo." Grenier, who stars in the hit HBO series “Entourage,” shares what inspired him to tell this story and details the production process behind editing over 300 hours of footage. During this exclusive interview, he also reveals, "I've been to Sundance seven times but this is the first time I've been as a director. There's a whole secret world at Sundance that I didn't know existed. It's the filmmaker/Robert Redford clan. They meet in secret and collaborate intensively."

"Teenage Paparazzo" is a documentary that tells the story of a 13-year old paparazzi and Grenier's attempts to mentor him. It also delves into trying to understand society's obsession with celebrity.

Catherine Keener talks with MakingOf about Picking Roles and her 12th Sundance

Outdoors, with the scenic snowy landscapes of Park City behind her, actress Catherine Keener took time out of her twelfth Sundance Film Festival experience to talk with MakingOf about her love for the festival, her on-set experiences acting in “Please Give,” and her choice of roles. Having previously worked with director Nicole Holofcener, Keener characterized being on the set of “Please Give” as being on a team, in an environment of collaborative camaraderie and dedication. She also explained her care in spotting and avoiding cliché female characters as she seeks out unique roles, like the part she plays in “Please Give.” Click here to learn more.

In “Please Give,” Keener plays Kate, who, along with her husband Alex and teenage daughter Abby, wants to expand her apartment by buying the unit next door. However, to expand their living space, Kate and her family have to wait for their elderly neighbor to die. While waiting, Kate, Alex, and Abby develop a complicated friendship with their neighbor and her two grown granddaughters.

In addition to “Please Give,” Keener stars in another Sundance entry, the Duplass brothers’ “Cyrus.”

"Avatar" wins Best Picture and Best Director at the 2010 Golden Globe Awards

"Avatar" was the big winner of the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards. The film was named Best Picture, Drama and Best Director went to James Cameron. Other winners of this year's awards include: Sandra Bullock, Best Actress Drama for "The Blind Side," Jeff Bridges, Best Actor Drama for "Crazy Heart," Kevin Bacon for Best Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for "Taking Chance" and Best Original Song went to 'The Weary Kind' from "Crazy Heart."

‘Avatar,’ ‘Star Trek’ among WGA nominees

The Writer’s Guild of America released its nominations today, announcing that James Cameron’s box office behemoth "Avatar" will compete in the original screenplay category with Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber’s "(500) Days of Summer," Jon Lucas & Scott Moore’s "The Hangover," Mark Boal’s "The Hurt Locker" and the Coen brothers’ "A Serious Man." For adapted screenplay, the Guild has selected Scott Cooper’s "Crazy Heart," Nora Ephron’s "Julie & Julia," Geoffrey Fletcher’s "Precious," Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman’s "Star Trek" and Jason Reitman & Sheldon Turner’s "Up in the Air." The WGA nominees for the documentary category are "Against the Tide," "Capitalism: A Love Story," "The Cove," "Earth Days," "Good Hair" and "Soundtrack for a Revolution."

Unlike other guild awards, like the DGA awards, this year’s WGA nominations may not necessarily predict the Academy Award nods to come, since several high-profile films in consideration this awards season are ineligible for nomination by the WGA due to contract requirements.

The WGA will announce the winners at its awards ceremony, taking place on February 20, 2010.

Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominees Announced

On Thursday December 17th, nominations were announced for the 16th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards. Jason Reitman’s “Up in the Air” walked away with three nominations including best actor for George Clooney, and best supporting actress for Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick, both of whom sat down with MakingOf for an exclusive interview earlier this month.

“Precious: Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” and “Inglorious Basterds” also walked away with 3 nominations each.

Carey Mulligan received a best actress nomination for her performance in “An Education,” a role that she discusses in a recent interview with MakingOf. Adittionally, “An Education” was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, which could mean potential awards for seven cast members including Dominic Cooper and Alfred Molina, who talked with MakingOf at September’s Toronto International Film Festival
