At the age of twenty-five, Richard Kelly was identified by Sundance as the rising talent for writing and directing his first feature film, "Donnie Darko." Right out of the gates, Kelly was nominated for both an Independent Spirit Award and Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize in 2001. Soon after, he wrote and directed "Southland Tales," which was nominated for a Golden Palm at Cannes. Kelly has also written "Knowing," "Domino" and his new film set to be released, in November of 2009, "The Box," starring Cameron Diaz. His production company, Darko Entertainment, is also producing the adaptation of the bestselling book "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell."

Son of a NASA scientist, Kelly says he found his calling in 1989 after watching David Fincher’s music video Janie's Got a Gun on MTV. Kelly says he will always be seduced by science fiction because he loves it.
